Top Spray Tanning Tips

The key to a long-lasting, perfect spray tan is the prep before the spray tan and the maintenance after. Below are a few important tips on how to ensure the perfect glow:

Exfoliate the day before your spray tan

Why? Because exfoliation leads to longer lasting and even colour. The better you exfoliate pre-spray tan, the less your body will need to exfoliate afterwards, allowing your glow to last longer.

Avoid putting lotion on after you shower and before you are getting spray tanned.

Why? Moisturizer/lotion can act as a barrier and prevent absorption of DHA (the active ingredient in any sunless tanning product and what causes your skin to change colour).

Avoid wanting to be TOO dark for your current skin colour.

Why? A super dark colour might look good on your porcelain skin when you are sprayed and the first couple of days but going too dark for your skin tone could leave to uneven or patchy fading. We recommend doing a natural glow which can be built upon the next time you come for your spray tan vs. going many shades darker on your first tan.

Wait 7-8 hours before showering.

Why? The DHA needs 7-8 hours to develop, the longer you leave it on the better! Our rapid tan solution for Girls on the Go allows you to wait only 2-4 hours before showering and the colour will continue to develop/get darker up to 24 hours after showering.

Wear loose fitting clothing to the spray tan appointment, avoid tight clothing right after.

Why? Anything that rubs against your skin causes friction, that friction will inevitably rub off some of your developing tan. We want try to not disturb the tanning process as much as possible! For example, wearing tight jeans or pants may rub off some solution leaving you with a lighter colour than if you allowed the solution to fully sink in. Ideally wear cotton after your spray tan; cotton clothing allows the skin to breath which helps to prevent any moisture from sweating.

Post-Spray Tan Maintenance:

After the 8 hours, take a light warm shower. Wash with a mild shower gel and simply rinse the extra airbrush solution off the surface of your skin. Do not exfoliate your skin during this shower. Gently pat yourself dry. Do not rub yourself dry.

Shaving after your tan speeds up the exfoliation process and shortens your tan by causing your tan to start to fade. When shaving, be sure to use a fresh blade with a light touch to minimize exfoliation and extend the life of your tan.

Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated and moisturize twice daily with a non-oily product to keep your glow tan lasting as long as possible!
